Make Your Own: Maison Michel Lace Fascinator Ears

So it's the end of October and that means two things; the countdown to the Melbourne Cup (if you attend it) and the fast approaching Halloween holiday (if you celebrate it). In other words, a whole lot of dressing up to do!

I first laid eyes on the whimsical Maison Michel lace ears while watching the Real Housewives of Melbourne earlier in the year, and naturally it aroused my head piece fetish. Both innocently sexy and ultra classy, I was obsessed and I wanted my own. So I made them! And you can too! And to prove just how "must have" these pieces are, original Michel ears will set you back just over $400 but these babies cost me under $30! Check it out below.

What You'll Need:

- hot glue gun OR a needle and thread if you prefer
- wide lace trim
- florists wire
- scissors
- plain black head band

1.

Begin with shaping the wire into a desired "ear". You can choose an easy triangle for kitten ears, or you can wrap the wire around a water bottle to create mouse ears. Fold one end of the wire around the other side to secure the shape.

2.

Lay the wire flat on the lace and place a few beads of glue at the top and bottom to stick to hold the ear in place.

3.

Start cutting the lace around the ear. I prefer keeping a 1 centimeter perimeter around the edge. Then
trace more glue around the wire to better adhere it to the lace.

4.

Wrap the longer piece of extended wire around the headband. You can adjust the position of each ear. Then trim any excess wire and add some more glue to attach it to the headband.

5.

Lastly, try on the ears to ensure comfort. You can also fold over one ear to add a little more character. The lace edges can remain a little frayed and uneven like the original Michel ears. Finito!

Do not be afraid to experiment! Whether your paying homage to kitten cute Ariana Grande or feline fierce Dita Von Teese, you can totally dress these up or down. Pairing with minimal accessories (I'd recommend pearl or diamond studs) will help to keep it subtle so you don't come across as a hopeless fashion fad, but rather seriously fashion forward. I can just picture these at the races worn with a black fitted mid calf pencil dress *gasp* STUNNING!
