Naughty Nails: 50 Shades of Grey Nail Art

Hey lovely people,

So it's finally here! The much anticipated 50 Shades of Grey film. I feel like people have been waiting forever for this, and while it's not to everybody's taste (whips, chains, etc, etc) we cannot deny there is something delectably classy about the audacious and riveting Mr. Grey. He ain't nothin' like the Mr. Darcy I've come to know and love, but he certainly has much better taste in fashion. ANYWAY! Thanks to COTY PR, I had the pleasure of trialing some new shades from OPI's newest collection inspired by the book and I thought, what better way to celebrate then have a little fingertip fun, it's even a little Valentine's Day appropriate if you're looking to be bold *wink face*. Keep reading to find out how!

What You Will Need:

  • Polish - I'm using a regular black and white polish, with OPI's "Romantically Involved" (red), "Embrace the Gray" (grey), and "My Silk Tie" (silver)
  • Any clear top coat
  • Nail art tools (or a toothpick will do)
  • Sticky tape
  • Zipper nail art stickers (purchased for $1 on eBay)
  • Nail art studs in gold or silver (eBay)
  • Black nail art sequins in round and tear drop shapes (eBay)

 1)

Coat each nail with a base coat of colour. You can switch it up if you like, but I chose black, white, and red for each nail.

2)

For one of the nails, use the tape to create a triangle from the cuticle edge. Make sure to press the tape firmly to avoid bleeding of any polish. Coat the exposed space with another colour (I chose red), and wait to dry before peeling tape back slowly. Once the tape is peeled back, apply a dot of clear top coat at the point of the triangle and place a tiny gold or silver stud. Allow to dry before applying one last top coat over the whole nail to seal.

3)

For the next nail take the grey polish and create a "V" shape starting from the corner of the free edge (as shown above). You can also achieve this by using tape if you wish, just make sure you apply the colour of the suit FIRST. Once dried, use the top coat to adhere the tiny black sequins to the white space. We are creating buttons of a tuxedo, so towards the free edge you can place small tear drop or triangle shaped sequins beside the top "button" to create the bow tie. Once fully dry, apply one last top coat.

4)

This last nail is really simple, and easy to do. It's turning the regular red nail into a little something naughty, with very little effort. Once the first coat of polish has dried, take the zipper nail stickers (sometimes you have to wet the back of the paper to peel them off) and place anywhere on the nail. Immediately seal with a top coat to prevent lifting, and you're done!

And there you have it, quick and easy nails, perfect for Valentine's Day or just to stare at because how awesome is pretty nail art? ;)

Have a GREY-t day! (lame I know)
X
